As of writing this there are a few downers. One most impressive things about the game is the sheer amount of custom options, you can scale absolutely everything, iv’e never seen such effort put in to a VR game, let alone a conversion. Most of this you’ve seen before if you have played LA.Noire, the developer has taken inspiration from a lot of what Rockstar got right. You get hand held tablets and a stylus to naturally interact with job details, skills, inventory, and all game settings. To simplify that, there are very few if any button presses here, you grab everything, interact with item placement naturally, manually pick locks, even use a computer mouse as you would. Thief simulator VR addresses many of the shortcomings of most flat screen conversions. I don’t want to verge on hyperbole, but this is to thieving games what Metal Gear Solid V is to tactical espionage games, it’s that great gameplay-wise. Once you get past the opening levels that feel more like tutorials, the game opens up, letting you take on these robberies any way you see fit. Things get even more complex once you have to do things like stripping cars for parts, figuring out which items to take or leave behind and more enticing scenarios as well. That means if you make too much noise, get caught, or even crouch physically at the wrong time, the cops show up and you’re going to jail. This game isn’t called a simulator just to be cute, it’s very much a simulation of being a thief. Scoping out people to learn their schedules, and MUCH more. While the setup and graphical quality seem simple at first, you’ll soon be looking into online databases for tips on how to rob certain houses. It’s fun stuff and with each mission, you gain more and more money enabling you to purchase tools to help you complete your heists like lockpicks, cameras, binoculars, etc. You start off with small-time stuff like stealing from tiny little houses and then work your way up to more intimidating fare like mansions. The setup for each mission goes like this, you’re given a mission description which is usually along the lines of “Go steal this for me”, it’s a simple setup, but for the means, this game looks to satisfy, it’s perfectly fine. Thief has a uniquely addicting gameplay loop that I would liken to something like Payday VR minus the combat capabilities. Once you’ve got all that down pat, it’s just a matter of completing the job given to you. It’s not as simple as a grab-and-bag job, you’ll also need to analyze the patterns of the people living on the property and find out their schedule. You can break into houses in a number of different ways, such as breaking the window or lockpicking the door open. Thief Simulator is set in free roam, sandbox neighborhoods, and you’ll need to keep your thieving wits about you to stay out of trouble. In this case hide and wait till they stop looking for you or you can always leave the loot and run away as fast as possible. If they catch you in the act, they will call the police. Of course many of them are just useless trash… Or maybe they aren’t? Be careful! In some houses you can meet unexpected guests. All those things can make life of an aspiring thief so much easier and reduce your burglary time even by a half. Key near a window or purchase receipts in trash bins. They will save you some time on lockpicking or hacking. Prepare phones and tablets before selling in a pawn shop by removing their security. ![]() Disassemble a stolen car and sell parts on the internet. Turn off the GPS trackers, disconnect all the devices from the internet and erase serial numbers. Use the flashlight at night to highlight all the valuables in sight and places where you can expect them to be. Be careful, cause some things can draw police attention to you! The BasicsĪ real, experienced thief can spot places where there’s most probability of finding some valuables on the fly. ![]() If you fill your backpack with worthless items, you may have to waste your time to throw stuff out just to make space for other things. If you’re not sure that you can take some serious money for it, maybe a good idea would be to leave it behind and save space for some expensive goods. In every house you’ll find tons of useless stuff, which can really slow you down. When it’s about time you have to maintain cold blood. Remember that infinite backpacks don’t exist. Find and steal as many valuables as possible in the shortest time possible. Might come in handy with gathering intel about your target and it’s neighbourhood.
